About

Charlie Cross

I read charts, cards and the I Ching for people in the difficult and dizzying moments of life.

I'm an astrologer in Austin. I started reading charts in 2013, after an initiatory injury opened me up to the cosmos, and I've given thousands of readings since, many of them through Sanctuary, where I've read since 2019. I see people over Zoom, in person in Austin and San Antonio, and at events.

Most people come when they're trying to get their bearings: a decision in front of them, a relationship that's changing, a hard stretch, or a question about where to live.

"In under one hour Charlie was able to deep dive into the pieces of my chart that brought genuine clarity into my emotional and spiritual past, present and future."Gavin, Austin

How I read

Cosmic Cartography

Long before compasses, navigators crossed open ocean by the stars. A chart still works that way for me: a map of the large contours of a life and the timing inside it, something to take your bearings by when things get dizzying. It describes seasons, and what you do with them is yours.

I call my practice Star Poetry, a term coined by my colleague Olivia Pepper. It treats astrology as a living language we take part in, with room for our own creativity and free will. A chart holds many characters, some of them contradictory, and different ones come forward at different times. Part of a reading is finding which ones this season is asking for.

The body

From the Stars to the Body

I'm especially drawn to astrology as a way of navigating embodied experience, and to how the movements of the heavens show up in the body. I've studied Medical Astrology with Will Morris since 2019 and hold the Astrology of Healing certificate from Kepler College, and I'm now completing my clinical internships in acupuncture and Chinese medicine at THSU.

Years of movement and meditative practice, and of competing internationally as an athlete, shape how I teach astrology through the body.

The I Ching and the Tarot

The Compass and the Cards

If the chart is the map, the I Ching is the compass. I consult it most days. It speaks to proper action: how to carry yourself in the situation you're in, and what to do next. In a reading it also does the work of synthesis, gathering what the chart has shown into one clear direction.

I use the Tarot when a situation is socially complex, with several people, motives or possible outcomes to hold at once, and it's especially useful for asking what if. The cards are also a mythological guide to the zodiac. Each sign has its card among the Major Arcana, like the Hermit for Virgo, Temperance for Sagittarius and the Star for Aquarius, and the card shows what that sign looks like at its highest expression.

  • Sagittarius Temperance
  • Aquarius The Star

In their words

What a Reading Was Like

“So grateful to have received such a thorough and inspired natal chart reading. It is quite clear Charlie has a gift and a wealth of knowledge. I left feeling inspired, encouraged, and seen. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I will carry this with me always!”

Mariah

“I consulted him as an astrologer (the first one I have ever seen!) at a time in my life that needed reflection and reorientation. He listened deeply to the details of my life and delivered a reading perfectly tailored to deepening my understanding of this point in my life and what things to be aware of in the upcoming months / years.”

Laura

“...I felt complete confidence in his ability to communicate difficult ideas about Natal Charts to a complete novice like myself. We talked about difficult subjects and ideas, and Charlie handled himself professionally with a friendly spirit. He came ready to recommend a variety of tailored reference material, books, studies, and tangible daily tasks, for me to take with me on this journey. If you're looking to expand your spiritual knowledge or come from a skeptical background, I highly recommend a working with Charlie.”

What I Hope to Be

A helpful companion in the difficult and dizzying moments, tracing patterns from the stars to the body, through the decisions and dealings, and the little whirlpools we get stuck in.

I value the tools, the oracles and the medicines I've studied. Above all, I value the will to help and the capacity to listen.
